Plymouth Marine Laboratory
Our computing capability and expertise enables scientists to process vast amounts of data to tackle some of the largest challenges in marine science. The facility is pivotal in supporting the cutting-edge science produced by both the Earth Observation and Modelling groups at PML and is increasingly being used by other groups to apply techniques such as Artificial Intelligence and Machine learning.
A recent addition to our computing facilities is the Massive GPU Cluster for Earth Observation (MAGEO), which was funded through a NERC transformational capital award in 2019 to provide capability to apply Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning to Earth Observation data. The cluster is housed at PML and operated though the NERC Earth Observation Data Acquisition and Analysis Service (NEODAAS) and used to train and apply models to large datasets. In addition, we have a high-performance computing (HPC) cluster, primarily used by the modelling group, in combination with national supercomputing facilities.

University of Plymouth
Our High Performance Computing Centre (HPCC) provides University of Plymouth researchers in Marine Renewable Energy and Coastal Engineering, generate complex, high-resolution models and to analyse large data sets.
We currently operate two clusters; Fotcluster2, a 752 core distributed-memory cluster and FoSERES/FoSEEDU a 1664 core Homogeneous cluster. and the latest additions to the Supercomputer we operate are 320 cores using Intel Xeon E5-2650 (SandyBridge) 8 core 2.60GHz processors.
